Bullying leaves nasty fingerprints on individuals, healthcare organizations, the nursing profession, and
patients. Its mark is damaging and long lasting. Leaders, therefore, have a responsibility to do their part
to stop the cycle of bullying and incivility.

In this workshop presentation your leaders/healthcare professionals will learn practical tools and
strategies they can immediately implement to address workplace violence, bullying, and incivility within
    the care environment.

When leaders and their teams are equipped to address disruptive behaviors, employees stay, and
    patients achieve better outcomes.

    1. Discover behaviors that undermine a culture of safety and respect.
    2. Distinguish the differences between bullying, incivility, and someone having a bad day.
    3. Summarize how successful healthcare professionals address and eliminate disruptive behaviors.

    4. Generalize three proven strategies to cultivate a professional and respectful work environment.

Studies show that cultivating and sustaining a high performing and cohesive team begins with a healthy work culture. Especially now. Recent research confirms that burnout and turnover are caused from toxic and negative work cultures.

For over a decade, the Healthy Workforce Institute has been working with healthcare leaders and their teams to create a healthy work culture by first, addressing bullying and incivility. Over time, we’ve noticed patterns of behaviors and skills common in departments that didn’t need our help because they had already built a healthy team. On the contrary, in departments that were struggling, these skills were missing.

The evidence is clear. Leaders need to be as competent in establishing a healthy work culture as they are managing the administrative aspects of their job.

In this interactive virtual retreat with Renee Thompson, leaders learn 8 essential skills required to hardwire so they retain and grow a high-performing and cohesive team. Each essential skill includes practical strategies for the leader to develop (self) and strategies to develop their team.

Upon completion of this presentation, participants will:

    1. Summarize healthy workforce strategies to cultivate a high-performing, respectful, and cohesive team.
    2. Select and implement one of the 8 essential skills of a healthy team within the first month.
    3. Formulate a long-term plan to embed culture as a priority to cultivate a healthy workforce.

    Essential Skills:

    1. Self-Awareness
    2. Honest and Respectful Communication
    3. Energy Management
    4. Reject Bullying and Incivility
    5. Continuous Improvement (gap and gain)
    6. Relationship Building (lateral agility)
    7. Ongoing Feedback (radical candor)
    8. Meaningful Recognition (kindness)
